Merger is a collection of corporate portmanteaus. The playful mashups envisage a near future where mergers, acquisitions and corporate inversions play out to their logical extreme. Many of the combinations, like MountainDewPont, suggest questionable offerings for consumers. Merger exploits the ease with which company names can be recombined, a reflection of the explosion in corporate branding from the 1960s on. A new language, made of modular affixes and devoid of meaning, evolved to accommodate the relentless consolidation of corporate power into fewer and fewer entities with increasingly broad mandates.
