The text in Tasting Notes is mined from advertising copy product packaging, featuring equally hyperbolic descriptions of coffee’s flavor and its exotic origins. The imagery is likewise appropriated from local coffeehouses, especially depictions of labor and coffee production. These juxtapositions elucidate the devices advertisers use, and highlight the disparity between the picture they paint and the reality they obfuscate. The sense of artifice is heightened by the conspicuous use of images of images and the tension between these and their real surroundings.
