The book’s text is mined from advertising copy and the hyperbolic descriptions of coffee and its origins, which are often found on product packaging. This text is paired with advertising imagery found in local coffeehouses, especially depictions of labor and coffee production. These combinations and juxtapositions elucidate the devices advertisers use, and highlight the disparity between the picture they paint and the reality they obfuscate. The sense of artifice is heightened by the use of images-of-images and the tension between these and their real surroundings.
