Printed tags on handmade walking sticks

Walking Meditation Number 1: Democracy in Life and Art is an outdoor, site-specific installation created for A Breath of Fresh Art (2024) at Primrose Retreat in rural Dane County, Wisconsin. The subtitle is taken from the event’s theme.

The installation is a guided walking meditation on the theme of democracy. It comprises ten walking sticks, each of which has a tag with two printed texts attached to the wrist strap. One side tells the story of a politically significant walk or walker, and the other offers a short meditative text.

Walking Meditation Number 1 is documented in a book of the same title.
